Day 2 of working on "the list", LOST and squirt bottles

So Wednesday brings working on the kitchen and bathrooms. Ha! I worked on the kitchens and I attempted to work on the extra bedroom for a little while. It currently has clean folded clothes in there, which are waiting to go to their homes. Some of those clothes made it into their rightful places but not all. Hard to get a lot done when the boys are awake.. :)

Currently I am listening to Jackson jump on the crib-toddler-bed, and after I rocked Charlie to sleep too. ugh. Charlie has a fascination with climbing onto the changing table, just like Jackson did -- but the thing is now there are two little boys up there and not just one.

We went to Costco today to pick up supplies for home, including Lost Season 6. Sean and I haven't seen ANY of this season, we're really really behind.. but at least now we can watch it straight through. My mom and dad have been holding every episode from this past year on their DVR. Guess they can free up some memory on that thing now!!! Oh, and Costco has CHRISTMAS stuff now. In AUGUST. yes, I know it's almost September, but common --- CHRISTMAS stuff? I guess some folks like to get an early start on the year... ugh!

The boys were so good at lunch time. Charlie and Jackson both sat at the table in chairs, ate their food, and after they were done Jackson put his plate in the sink and pushed in his chair (as we tell him to do..) and Charlie pushed in his chair without being asked to do so! (It's so funny - monkey see, monkey do - monkey get in trouble too sometimes!)

Earlier this morning I gave each of the boys a small squirt bottle with water it in. They had a blast squirting the back door with the water, then 'cleaning' the window by drying up the water with a cloth towel. They always want to be involved in whatever I'm doing throughout the day --- working on the computer (rare), cooking, going to the bathroom (MOM what are you DOING in there?!?), attempting to study for school... the list goes on and on.

Jackson's favorite part of the squirt bottle was squirting his brother, of course, and then squirting the water into his own mouth. He was so happy about that, it cracked me up!

Today I start my first day of school for the semester -- taking Pharmacology. It's a requirement for nursing students.. So, this is my FINAL class that I need to take before I go into the nursing program next year!!!! YEA! I've got all my stuff ready to go! :)

Uh oh, got to go, I hear crying. Until next time.

Catching Up to Martha Stewart

Ok so, even though I was/am in the military, I still struggle with keeping my house clean. I blame it on having two kids under 3 but that excuse will only hold up for so much longer. I will never, ever, catch up to Martha Stewart, but here is my first go at trying to be like her perfect little self (minus the money issues that put her in jail. That, my friend, is a place I never want to go.).

So today, I sat my happy butt down and decided to make a list for Fall 2010, Monday through Sunday, listing each day and what to focus on each day. I'm hoping each day will take about 1/2 hour or less, and it can be done when the boys are taking their naps (Praying that Jackson still continues to take his naps!)

Tuesday means focusing on the dining room. So, right now the table is piled up with papers, school books, crayons, bags from target, zhuzhu pet house thing etc.. The floor is swept and mopped. The floor looks dry, so instead of me attacking the stuff on the table I, of course in my procrationational way, am putting up a new blog. I will get to it in a minute (hahaha famous words of a procratinator!!!)

Today the boys and I took our first post-op outing alone together, which means I drove around town and we survived the trip. I have been so cooped up in this house, staring at the same walls and watching the same mind-numbing but addictive childrens shows, I just had to get out today. We went to Target (thus the target bags on the dining room table), and to the park. It wasn't too hot today, which was nice.

We played for about 1 1/2 hrs and then went home, played with some new play-doh, watched Word World on PBS and then the boys went to bed. Since they are both in toddler beds now, the actual sleeping of nap time comes usually within 10 to 30 minutes of the actual start of nap time. Charlie usually gives up before Jackson.

Speaking of the boys, I am in the works of planning to paint their room (FINALLY!). After seeing several friends babys rooms, I have the urge to finally decorate a baby room. I have not had that opportunity, mainly because we moved from Louisiana to California shortly after Jackson was born, and we knew we weren't going to be in staying in our first apartment out here (way too complicated to write why here) so now that it looks like we'll be in this apartment for at least another 2-3 years, I feel grounded enough to finally decorate/paint this apartment. I think it'll feel a lot more 'homely' and will let my creative side blossom once again. At least, hopefully.

Ok, so that is enough procrastination for now, time to tackle those papers etc on the dining room table!

Surgery, Haircuts and Pool Time before 10am

I had surgery a week ago to remove a lump on my neck. The recovery for the next week was really long, painful and made me feel useless when it came to playing with my boys. I really wanted to play with them every day - take them to parks, our usual routine, etc - but that wasn't in the books for me and my recovery.

Thank the Lord I only had a brachial cleft cyst - a lump in my neck that didn't belong - and nothing worse. Labs and biopsys all came back as that diagnosis, and no cancer of which i am ery thankful for!!!

This past weekend Sean and I took the boys to get their haircut at the barbar shop. Charlie definately looks like a little boy now, no questions asked! Jackson got a trim and doesn't look like he's trying to sport a mullet any longer.

Today we're in the back yard, before 10 am, playing with the water in the pool. Jackson loves getting Charles wet, but really doesn't like to get himself wet. It's kind of funny. And of coruse they always want to play with the same toy. I think all kids go through that - wanting exactly what their sibling/friend has, but once they get it they dont know really what to do with it.

Another big thing that happened this weekend - we transitioned Charlie from his crib into a toddler bed, which consisted taking one side off of his crib. He's been doing pretty well so far the past few nights. What's funny, though, is that Jackson loves Charles' crib, and Charles loves Jackson's race car bed, so at night they switch and sleep in each others beds. At least they're sleeping!!! It's so adorable to see them both sleeping in 'big boy beds!'

Last night, Charlie fell out of the bed and screeeeeammed! He was fine, of course. I think he was scared beyond anything.

VBS 2010 ~ Egypt!

Last week was VBS week at church. The boys loved it! Every day they went and learned a little bit about God and Jesus (the church had a program set up even for the little kids) and came home with fun art projects, happy faces and tired little bodies from running around all morning. Every day on the way home Charlie fell asleep (or shortly after arriving home), and Jackson followed shortly after.

This was our second year at VBS together. Last year I helped with the "Purple Room", where the infants are watched while their mommies and daddies are helping in other parts of VBS. It's amazing to see how much kids grow in a years time! For example, last year Charlie and his buddy Logan played in the purple room, and this year they were buddies again in the "Blue Room". I have a feeling they'll be together throughout their school years, at least at Trinity. Maybe they'll be good friends? But remembering about how little they both were last year, and then looking at them this year was amazing to see.

I worked at the Toy Shop, where we taught the kids to play an Egyptian game called Tenet. The kids colored their boards, put stickers and stamps on the boards and then took them home to play with their families. Working in the "market place" where the Toy Shop was located at was such a different experience than working with the little kids (aka baby sitting). Every 15 minutes for 1 1/2 hrs or there abouts we got a group of 22 or 33 kids, roatating though our booth to learn about the game, make their boards, and then move on to another place. The youngest kids I think were 4 or 5 years old, and the older kids were in 5th or 6th grade. It was really interesting to see the range of personalities, abilities, language (both verbal and non-verbal), joy, enthusiasm, shyness, etc each child had at our booth. The way the kids colored the boards - quickly, precisely, scribbles, whatever - varied as well as their attention spans. Such a vast array of kids!
